Henry’s Story

We are excited to share the story of our sweet, soulful pup Henry who recently found his forever home with the Barry family of Nashville. Collin is the perfect match for Henry as he is someone who will love Henry for who he is—a gentle senior, loyal, a little shy, full of life with a tender heart. What a wonderful life they will have together!

Earlier this year, after over 10 years with the family who raised him from a puppy, Henry found himself unwanted … and he was turned over to Agape Animal Rescue to find a new, caring home. It goes without saying Henry was initially sad and confused.  But Agape’s foster care program has an amazing way of healing emotional wounds, and ultimately Henry’s confidence began to grow, along with his spirit. We learned how much he loves walks! And playing with other dogs … and treats!  He developed a bond and a trust with his foster dad, Allen, that helped him regain his inner strength over the last few months, which made him ready for this next big step.

Not everyone wants to adopt a senior dog, despite all their fine qualities of maturity and loyalty. New dad Collin is unique in this regard. He saw Henry online on Agape’s website, and immediately had a connection. Collin was looking to adopt a senior and Henry tugged at his heart. When they met at the park the first time, Henry took treats from Collin, and gave him gentle kisses. Their bond was already forming.

Collin will be giving Henry a quiet, comfortable life, with lots of walks and car rides … all the things Henry enjoys. With a beautiful new bowl stand and a super comfy orthopedic bed, Henry is already seeing how much his new dad wants him to be comfortable. We are thrilled Collin and Henry have found each other and get to share their lives together! “I absolutely love him,” Collin says. We are grateful to Collin and the hundreds of foster and adoptive families who give dogs, like Henry, a second chance at life … and love.

It takes our whole family of Agape supporters – our staff, foster family volunteers, board of directors, adoptive families, and faithful Agape donors – to do whatever it takes to save dogs with special needs like Henry.

Will you consider making a summertime gift to Agape to support special needs dogs like Henry?
